New York Implements Municipal ID Program

Great news today for undocumented immigrants in New York!

On January 12, 2014, New York State started a new program to allow people who have trouble traversing through city services, governmental programs and the like, to apply for a municipal issued ID. This is a huge help to undocumented immigrants and the homeless.

While many Americans may take for granted the ease of access to a Government issued ID, this is not the same for undocumented immigrants. This new program will make things such as renting an apartment, showing ID to an officer or buying prescription drugs an easier process.

The card will be named IDNYC cards. Anyone over the age of 14 can apply and for the first year there are no fees. Please visit your local enrollment office to apply.
